Silky Oak Golf Course is the newest of the three 18-hole courses that make up the recently renamed Barcelona Valley in Rayong.
The native Australian tree that resembles a pine shares the same name as the golf course and is the main tree planted throughout the layout. The backside of the leaf has the colour of silver grey which looks attractive in the wind.
Silky Oak is a regulation par-72 layout. The local layout and design plays to 7,041 yards in length and is the shortest of the three courses in the same complex. However, it is conceptually different as the fairways are wide and greens very accessible. Silky Oak is ideal for golfers with medium to high handicaps and those looking for an enjoyable day out on the fairway. With a beautiful design and the stunning scenery surrounding the course, the Silky Oak layout is a feast of beauty.
However, donβt be fooled by the rather open concept as there are a variety of potential pitfalls to challenge even the most accomplished golfers. The extra wide fairways have tremendous height differences. Well-placed accurate shots have the edge over long booming drives. Water comes into play on eight holes.
The clubhouse facilities are shared with the Green Valley and St. Andrews courses that make up Barcelona Valley. The locker rooms are not fancy but adequate, although sometimes there is a wait for a shower if all three courses are busy. There are many independently run restaurants in the building serving different national dishes.
Make sure you arrive well before your start time as it is a 15-minute drive by golf cart from the clubhouse to the first hole. Silky Oak also won the award for the best value-for-money Pattaya golf course. Have fun!
